Lelethu Ngozwana also known as Lellza is a young, South African girl, born and raised in East London in the Eastern Cape. Her earlier childhood years however,began in a small town between Idutywa and East London, called Butterworth. It was at Extension 7, a suburb inButterworth, where she was first exposed to a variety of authentic South African music genres such as kwaito, pop and house music. Since the discovery of her love towards these genres, Lelethu began collecting old compact discs from her father who largely contributed towards her taste in music. At the time, her father’s collection mostly consisted of reggae, jazz, deep house, electronic music and kwaito. Her father was intrigued in her quest for music so much so that he saved up money to buy her an iPod for her 10th birthday. This was the first iPod she had ever owned and would soon become a huge testament towards her musical journey.
Lelethu would spend every minute of her time that was not occupied by school, sport, homework and family time listening to music on her iPod. She was inseparable from this musical device and was always looking for opportunities to fill her iPod with the latest house music tracks. It was not until she was just about to turn eleven years old that she felt a deep connection and love for South African Deep House. Nothing had ever taken her on such a spiritual journey like Deep House music. This moment alone solidified her passion for music.
Today, Lelethu is based in the bustling city of Johannesburg while actively pursuing a career as a Deep and Soulful House music DJ as well as a producer in these sub-genres of House music.
She is a self taught DJ and currently enrolled at an Academy towards Music Production course in Johannesburg.
Being a deeply spiritual person, Lelethu hopes to reach and take everyone who enjoys the authentic sounds of South Africa and Africa as a whole, on a Divine journey through her own produced music as well as music she has carefully curated to perform as a DJ. This is the same journey that first enthralled her never ending love for Deep House music. Deep House is after all a feeling.
Furthermore, Lelethu aspires to produce music that inspires other House music tastemakers to believe in the music so much that they too pursue careers in music. Her hope is that it will open up the house music space to more South Africans to become creators. She also hopes to deliver a quality and pleasurable listening experience to all those who listen to her performances.
One can hope to catch Lelethu perform at urban spaces and clubs in Gauteng as well as on her social media platforms for more of her work.
